Veterans Needed for Brainwave Study Intending to Show PTSD, Depression and Anxiety Relief

Bloomington, MN, May 25, 2010 – Neuro Strength, LLC, and Mind Symmetry are seeking male Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to participate in a study on the effectiveness of Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ (Real Time Balancing) to ease post traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ is a non-invasive technology that creates balance and harmony in the brain, which can result in greater balance physically and emotionally. For the study, each subject will complete mental health inventories before and after training, have an individualized brain assessment, and complete 12 two-hour training sessions. All activities will take place at the Bloomington, MN, office of Neuro Strength, beginning in May 2010. The Neuro Strength Veterans Study is privately funded, so veterans receive training for free.

During training, clients listen to their brainwaves translated into sound waves, allowing the brain naturally change and create new neural pathways based on this observation. This is not a talk therapy process.  More than 25,000 clients have experienced Brainwave Optimization with RTB™, including more than 400 veterans, but this is the first study that focuses on recently returned veterans. It is currently being used in a research hospital of the Department of Defense.

One veteran described his status 3-weeks following training as, “I have been sleeping much better, I find myself not becoming angry and/or staying angry or upset for long periods of time. I have much more patience with my wife and our relationship has improved because of it. I would say that my PTSD symptoms have dramatically decreased. Anxiety, depression, feelings of separation and isolation have decreased as well. I recently went out with some friends and was able to control my alcohol intake and not become belligerent or black out. I thoroughly enjoyed [the sessions]. ”

Neuro Strength, LLC and Mind Symmetry offer Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ to clients throughout the Twin Cities area. They are two of more than 130 affiliate offices of Brain State Technologies™, and each has been in operation since 2007. Veterans interested in the Neuro Strength Veterans Study can apply by calling 952-888-0011. Veterans interested in the technology who do not want to participate in the study are eligible for a reduced training rate, and can call the same number to make arrangements. Purpose, Summary & Methodology

Purpose:
To determine the efficacy of Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ with veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, specifically looking at indicators of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression.

Summary:
Brainwave Optimization with RTB™ is an individually tailored process of balancing and harmonizing the brain. Brain function is manifest as electromagnetic energy which can be captured and analyzed in a non-invasive manner by placing sensitive electronic receivers, or electrodes, on the scalp. By giving the brain the opportunity to "see" itself through personalized training exercises, balance and harmony can be brought back to the brain.

Balance in the brain is subsequently followed by balance in the body. The condition of balance and harmony for the brain is known as homeostasis. It is a “level playing field” for the brain to respond to thinking, feeling, and healing the body in an optimized state. The brain acts as the hub of the wheel, the nervous system the spokes, and the body the rim. When the hub is out of balance everything else suffers.

Why Female Vets Aren't in the Study

Female veterans have responded well to brainwave optimization training. However, based on the differences in the way men and women experience trauma and the possibility that they may have an additional issue of sexual assault trauma, women are not included in this current study.

“The statistics show that seven women out of 1,000 serving in the Army, Navy and RAF suffered some form of mental disorder – including depression, anxiety or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). By comparison, three male servicemen in 1,000 suffered from mental disorder.” source

Lee Gerdes

This statement, published in an article in Telegraph.co.uk in February 2010, prompted the following response from Lee Gerdes, founder of Brain State Technologies™ (BST).

Veteran Statistics

The primary reason the Neuro Strength Veteran Study is being conducted is because of concerns by the study’s funder related to the well being of those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. The statistics related to veterans and mental health problems, substance abuse, and family issues are concerning.

The increase in these issues may be related to the multiple deployments by military personnel. According to military records, more than 2 million men and women have been deployed to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), and more than 40 percent of them have served at least two tours. Nearly 300,000 troops have served three, four or more times. More than half of those currently at war are at least on their second tour.  source

The Veteran’s Administration (VA) has taken steps to combat these issues, including hiring more than 900 mental health care professional in the past 2 years, establishing the 24 hour Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), providing anonymous chat opportunities with VA counselors via www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org, and dedicating 400 people solely to suicide prevention research and counseling in the VA.
